The Story Behind the Blue Jacket Dairy Logo: Reflections from the Early Days of Blue Jacket Dairy

Eighteen years ago this month, we had our logo designed for our artisan cheese business in Ohio. We knew we wanted the name to come from Blue Jacket Creek, which runs through our property. We knew a cow had to be part of it. And being at the highest point in Ohio, we wanted to give a small nod to that as well.

It was important to us that it highlighted the local area since it is where we live and highlights the rich history of Logan County. At the time, we were focused on getting started and had no idea how it would end up, or how hard it would be to weather the ups and downs of building a small business. We are so thankful for the customers who have been faithful over the years.

In those final months before we started making cheese commercially in April 2008, there were a thousand decisions no one sees from the outside. Learning the rules. Taking risks that could not be undone. Figuring out how work would fit into a real life that already had plenty going on.

That season also taught us how often the important work of business happens long before anyone is watching. Those early, unseen decisions shaped far more than we realized at the time. It was an exciting season, watching a dream begin to take shape.

Our logo still represents cows and creek water. But it also represents what we learned about building something real, and learning how to do it in a way that could last.

It is funny what a simple design ends up carrying. We certainly had no idea that 18 years later, we would still be making cheese, still tending to the same responsibilities that came with those first choices.

Looking back, that early decision to choose a name and a logo tied to a place reflected a truth we would only fully understand later. Blue Jacket Dairy, and the journey of building a business here, has reminded us that the best things are made with care, time, and intention.
